The other Bob

No 'Alternative' Folk or Country here. Bob Martin is one of those Folk singers that keep the Folk idiom alive while updating the subject matter and singing about today. He's been doing just that since the early seventies, pretty much picking up where Bob Dylan left off when he turned away from Folk. What he does best is tell a story. Mostly of working people, drifters, migrants, these stories are so evocative you can actually see, hear and feel what these people go through. 'Salisbury Beach' on 'The River Turns the Wheel' tells the story of one summer in the life of a part time musician and of how nothing stays in one place and everything keeps changing. Listen to it several times and you will feel like you have lived that summer yourself, played those hotel bars, watched the sun drop lower over the horizon, "sleeping nights upon the sand".
