A Towny's kind of Cowboy


I heard Townes Van Zandt last week for the first time, and I might be wrong, but this guy seems to have done alt-country two decades before the scene was even dreamt of.

This album was recorded when he was 29 (he died in 1977 at age 43) in what seems like some dive in Texas. It really sounds like being there. The songs are emotional in a dry way, and it's only Towns and his guitar.
